Music, dance and poetry coalesce to explore a harrowing journey through depression.

Dunedin-based composer Maddy Parkins-Craig’s debut string quartet piece, TwentyNineteen, offers an autobiographical retelling of a year living with severe depression. Featuring minimalist-inspired musical stylings, the piece will be performed and experimentally manipulated live in the stunning Te Korokoro o Te Tūi recording studio by some of Dunedin’s leading musicians and sound engineers. This musical storytelling is preceded and interspersed with contributions from premier local poets and dancers, combining to create a performance that confronts what it is to reach, and survive, our darkest moments.
