From: Ōtepoti | Dunedin

Our improvised musical show is a celebration of creativity and imagination, designed to spark every child’s inner storyteller!

In this 45-minute, interactive adventure, kids call out ideas that we instantly transform into catchy songs, wild characters, and laugh-out-loud scenes – all made up on the spot. No two shows are ever the same! It’s a high-energy mix of music, comedy, heroes, monsters, and audience participation that keeps everyone captivated from start to finish.

While there are opportunities for audience participation, we know that not all kids will want to do so – the show is designed so every kid can have fun without being pushed outside their comfort zone.

And parents, this one is for the kids, so you will not be asked to participate, just sit back and enjoy the show!

The Improvisors
Marea and Heidi have collectively been improvising for more than two decades. Their expertise has seen them teaching improvisation locally, nationally and internationally!

  • Marea has worked as an assistant director of a summer camp in California. Recently she has become a mum and wants to see more theatre designed just for kids.
  • Heidi has toured nationally in an educational acting troupe for kids and teenagers. She is currently a drama teacher who loves helping kids unleash their creativity.
  • Our Muso, Zac Nicholls, is a professional musician who has been making music his whole life. Zac has written multiple kid shows for the Playhouse Theatre and the Fortune Theatre and currently teaches music to local primary school students.

The shows
There are two tailored performances:

  • 2pm: Age suggestion: 5–8 – big energy, big fun, big imagination!
  • 3.30pm: Age suggestion: 9–12 – fast-paced, hilarious, and totally unpredictable!

But we know every child is unique—parents are encouraged to choose whichever show feels best for their kids.

The Space

Grab your blankets, capes, or cushions—get comfy in our cozy performance zone where families can sit back, laugh loud, and join the action!

Join us for a memorable, fun-filled adventure that celebrates the magic of spontaneous storytelling and song—where every audience member helps shape the show!
