Suitcase Theatre welcomes you to an exploration of mental health. The conversation around mental health has been appearing more and more in mainstream media: does this mean we are finally having those conversations? The ones that help us understand what it’s like to live with a mental illness; the ones that remind us that we are not alone; the ones that shake off the shame and stigma of a label and start to actually help; the ones that help us to empathise, support and live alongside this undeniable part of humanity. Mental Notes continues that conversation. We invite you into the hearts and minds of people living through mental illness, and what it's like to be on the outside looking in. Mental Notes is a collection of stories from our community, your community. Some of these are one person's story. Some have been woven from a collection of experiences on the same topic. All stories are anonymous. Human stories, Dunedin stories, our stories. And, as always, we invite you to stay for a chat and a cup of tea after the show. Suitcase Theatre is passionate about producing theatre with heart. We take a two-pronged attack: starting crucial conversations in our community while celebrating and supporting organisations that are making a difference in Dunedin. Over the last two years, we have produced V-Day pieces, starting conversations around violence against women raising funds for Rape Crisis Dunedin and Stopping Violence Dunedin. This year we have written a new piece collecting stories and perspectives on mental wellbeing. In 2018 we are working in partnership with the Life Matters, Suicide Prevention Trust. All profits from the show will go towards supporting their critical work here in Dunedin.
